GAME IN ACTION

GAME DESIGN
Game-Mechanic Design
Right from the inception of the design process, our aim was crystal clear: to craft a game that brings people together, celebrates cultural diversity, and champions wildlife conservation. This overarching goal served as our North Star, guiding every step of the game's creation.

The process of Game Mechanic Design involved a series of game testing sessions. Here, the creative team immersed themselves in play-testing a wide spectrum of games. This served a dual purpose: igniting our creative inspiration and allowing us to assess how different game mechanics could complement one another. With these valuable insights, we transitioned into the task of constructing our own game, starting with the compilation of a list of potential game mechanics for the project.

In accordance with our pre-established game design objectives, we meticulously fine-tuned the selection of game mechanics, guaranteeing their seamless alignment with our overarching design goals. The incorporation of specific mechanics in the game was guided by various game design principles. These included adding the following elements to the game: progressive difficulty, surprise and delight, achievable goals, and sensory engagement, to name just a few.
Prototype
After narrowing down the selection of game mechanics, prototypes were developed, and a series of game tests were initiated.
Some of these tests were monitored, and others were not. Game testers were provided with Google surveys for anonymous feedback collection, and the resulting data was thoroughly reviewed. Following this, iterations were implemented on the prototype, after which the product underwent further rounds of testing

VISUAL DESIGN
Concept Art / Lo-Fi Design
Visuals are of paramount importance in game design. Our objective was to create visual designs that emanate playfulness and vibrancy, harmonizing with the high-energy, drama-packed style of the game we had developed.
Additionally, we sought to prominently showcase the silverback gorilla on numerous cards, establishing a profound connection between players and the animal. Lastly, to imbue the game with a touch of Rwandan culture, we introduced characters inspired by modern and folk stories from Rwanda

Hi-Fi Design
After selecting a few preferred Lo-fi sketches, we proceeded to refine them into high-fidelity illustrations. These illustrations would later be integrated with text and other elements on the cards, box, and rulebook.

Information Architecture
Various information architecture principles were applied to seamlessly integrate text, illustrations, and icons into the final product
